Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Mark Donnellan

To paint or not to paint: that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler for the ride to suffer
The slings and arrows of powder coating,
And to put up with limited colours and a lacklustre finish,
And by opposing end them? To wax: to polish;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the multiple clear coats
That metal is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be rust'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;

Paint or Powdercoat? What say you?

Been there, done that.

That said, the 'Holden Sunbeam' spraycan job is still holding up nicely on the singlespeed.

Both the Faster Pussycat & Kitten of Doom were done at Bell Powdercoaters in Preston. Bloke has also had several frames done there as well. Excellent rates, excellent service. Call now.

If you have lack lustre finish and limited colours, stop dealing with a powdercoater that only does beds for a living. While it is true that industrial powdercoaters have a limited range on the shelf, they are not constrained by that.

"NIC industries" for example, who supply the powdercoat industry offer 6500 off the shelf shades with custom colour matching available.

Give people that amount of choice and 90% will still pick a primary colour anyway

Great tip - NIC's range is amazing. i had no idea powder coatings could be so varied - i once worked for a PC factory in Thomastown - they did black, white and a few non-UV stable colours.

now the tricky bit - red, blue or yellow?

... and after you've chosen red, which red do you choose?

So many lovely colours to choose, I'm tempted to have the axe stripped and recoated even though the existing coat is still fine.

Powdercoat for me - strip and coat, no mess, no pain all for $70.......Too easy.

Actually had time on my hands today mate and mananged to get another 2 old resto jobs on the road. Out of the 8 bikes here at the moment, 7 are riding respectably. Bottled a batch of home brew stout and put on another batch of a Caffrey's clone. The things you do when you cant be more than half an hour from home!
