One of the problems that cyclists have in Australia is bird attack. Some Male Magpies and Magpie Larks get very protective in Springtime when they are nesting. It seems to be cyclists that attract most of the attention but they will swoop on pedestrians and animals as well.
It is only for 6-8 weeks of the year they show this aggression and although there are some preventative measures you can take the best one is to avoid the strike zone.
Before it is mentioned I do realise that the Australian regulations for bicycle helmets state "no modifications" so really adding cable ties to the helmet renders the helmet "not approved" to Australian Safety Standards. For more information regarding Magpies and protection against attack have a look at the DSE website: http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/plants-and-animals/native-plants-and-animals/problem-wildlife/swooping-birds
