MY BROOKS SADDLE - will my rear end learn to love it?

I've just bought a Brooks saddle. I've bought whole bikes for less money. But the idea is that this saddle will last a lifetime, or at least my backside's lifetime. First, however, my derriere and the Brooks saddle have a few 'getting to know you' issues to sort out...

Thanks for the advice, Cory. So far it's going okay. I'm just about to do a 70+km ride (I'm in Amsterdam today) so that will be a good test of (a) saddle and (b) bum. We'll see who wins...

A-ha, so you've bought your first brooks ;)

I got a tin of proofide when Santa got it for me, so plenty on the underside and (because mine was an 'aged'), none on the top, intially.  Don't go overboard with it.  A little goes a long, long way.

Then, probably 6-monthly or so.  All depends.

I now have two, the 'aged' B.67 on my commuter, and a B.17 narrow on my steel roadie/CX.  I also recently put a B.67S on my partner's commuter.  She's starting to see why it's worthwhile.

Give it some time.  I'm sure there are some tails they don't suit - but I'm also sure plenty of ppl don't give them enough time.

Also, don't be overly concerned about riding the rain.  Leaving it outside in the weather/rain for extended periods?  Sure.  But a little rain won't hurt it.  I also keep a shopping bag tucked up in the nose, just in case I have to park/lock outside in inclement weather.  (I do have the proper brooks weather cover too - but don't use that often).

Pleased to hear it, Chris. If Dubbin is fine, then that is what it will get from a cheapskate.

G'day Richard, I have had a Brooks Professional on my MTB for a few years now.

I have found it very good.

I mostly use Dubbin on it and have also used Brooks Proofide.

Good luck with yours.

Cheers, Chris
