Not so fast there Steve with the slapdown, have a peruse at the state-by-state breakdown of the projects before passing judgement.

- Jobs Fund - National Bike Path Projects
- List of announced National Bike Path Projects

There's actually some very useful projects listed, as it appears many councils had these projects either in the planning process, ie: shovel-ready and ready to go. Yarra Council got $600K to fix up a particularly crappy section of the Main Yarra Trail which will benefit literally thousands of shared path users.

I'm guessing that MOST of this will be spent on serpentine drizzles of leftover concrete or hotmix with little consideration of the fact that cycling is ONLY a carbon offset if it's used as main transport. These are drive-to-the-cycleway-and-have-fun projects, not cycling infrastructure.
