September 7th is Fathers Day
(Australia and NZ) – for me, it’s never meant much in the past. But the better half of the Jovi’s mentioned it in passing this morning. “It’s Fathers Day soon, is there anything you want?”
It dawned on me - the squeeking squawking sound coming
from the spare bedroom isn't just there for fun - "I can milk this!"
Thoughts of a lovely Spring day sharing a picnic or having Fish and Chips on the pier and feeding the seaguls romantically wafted through my brain and I could visual the joy of fatherhood and the satisfaction of being celebrated for the day. What could be more lovely?
Those thoughts only lasted a few minutes. I then had visions of rolling along a path with the better half beside me on a
dutch bike and the little fella in a
trailer behind me and rolling green paddocks either side with trees placed strategically as if it were a postcard.
As I have become more alert during the day, my needs have changed and have become more autocratic. At one stage there I imagined myself gathering firewood to keep the family warm with a brand new
chainsaw, wielding it above my head like a scene from a B grade horro flick. The hunter gatherer? Moi? Surely I can be more superficial than that!
Then I started writing a list. A list that could be no further away from celebrating fatherhood and togetherness than this:
So, before I SMS the other Jovi informing her to check her email because I have sent her my Fathers Day wishlist, I was wondering if I'd missed anything?
