1901 was an exciting year for cycling

Continuing on in a relatively easy to predict theme ...

We don't need to know the way home, all we want is life beyond the thunderdome.

You cant judge a Brooks by it's cover!

Well, I'll be buttered on both sides! After a few years of listening to others extolling the virtues of Brooks saddles, I have only just worked it out.

Now, out of the box, I didn't mind the feel of the Brooks. The ride was firm but fair. It's taken me about 500km of tweaking of the bike set up to actually find the right position.I tweaked the set up a bit using a laser level last sunday and changed a lot of the cause of the struggle to get… Continue

Time off for good behaviour

Taking a weeks holiday in early Sept, we've booked into a B&B in Oxley which is some lavender farm, looks snazzy in the pics, The MIL has graciously offered to take care of the kiddies so we can have an overnighter. W00T

I admit to having a massive addiction to Brown Brothers wines, yup, as far as I'm concerned you can keep your "so dry, it might as well be a gas" red wine, I'll have something a tad sweeter on the palette thanks, not as sweet as a Botrytis though.

Seeing as the… Continue

Aaaaaaarrggg - Cramps!

No I'm not actually discussing a Date with Elvis, more of the agony inducing oh-shit-something-is-ripping-my-calf-off pain.

Now as most people would know, cramps can occur after exercise or during sleepy time when the muscles are trying to relax/repair.

What about getting cramps after a reasonably short bike ride when you're attempting to get back into form after a bad dose of 'flu? From perusing some cramp-themed reading material, it seems to be… Continue

Still no riding, but the buying continues

More money spent on bike parts, My wife used to complain it was Carbon Fibre this, latest and lightest that. Now with the old bike getting attention, It's scouring eBay and the like, looking for NOS and stuff that hasn't changed design since the 50's.

The new brakes and levers are NOS Mafac, Probably late 70's vintage, but identical to the stuff offered in 1960. I'm disappointed that these items came from Belgium and the seller did not have the decency to chuck a few beers in the… Continue

The Green and Gold - oh, and black socks

WTF? Black socks? Green and Gold?

I'm no fashionista - far from it. I remember my mother saying in the morning while I was getting dressed to go to school, "Blue and Green should never be seen."

Who's idea was the Green and Gold anyway? According to history, it wasn't until 1984 that it actually became official that Green and Gold would be our national colours.

Sure - I understand that it represents the wattle. A national Icon of our indigenous fauna, that if… Continue

Fathers Day

September 7th is Fathers Day (Australia and NZ) – for me, it’s never meant much in the past. But the better half of the Jovi’s mentioned it in passing this morning. “It’s Fathers Day soon, is there anything you want?”

It dawned on me - the squeeking squawking sound coming from the spare bedroom isn't just there for fun - "I can milk… Continue

The lil fella is 4 weeks old and was weighed the other day... 5.5kg.. what a boofa.

Me, stuck working this weekend, spoiled myself while in Richmond this morning with nice Brooks B17 special, Black with copper rivets and coated rails, very nice if I do say so myself, This will go onto the old bike so should look the part, my wife freaked when she saw the price tag when I brought it home, but meh, I… Continue

Whats this blog thing?

Well, typing in here for the first time, not sure anyone will read this, and if anyone does, I should assure them that this could be a cure for insomnia.

My newest non bike arrival (my son) is a little over 3 weeks old now, Awake every 3 or 4 hours yelling his little head off, I don't know how my better half Leanne copes, I mean I do some feeds, but working real early starts means I'm not much good for a late night bottle.

Haven't got on the bike much, A week or so before… Continue
