"Hi nick, we have a saying in aviation that goes, "it's all ok, untill it's not ok". So if you wish to ride a 800w unlimited machine, that's really fine. And if you pranged it and had to collected by an ambulance one day, I…"

"Not sure that this little darling is going anywhere else! Every one of these batteries is dead, after less than a year of being used exactly as the manufacturer suggested. I dont actually know where to take them - certainly the providers of…"

"Sadly Alan yours is not an unusual story. In my early days of electric bike research (say 2 years ago) I did a fair bit of testing. This involved getting batteries and placing them on a test rig that alternately connects the charger, followed by an…"

Nanocycles are very close now!

Hi folks, I have been working on these for a while now, and they are very very close. Its an ebike conversion kit, but very, very unlike anything currently available. The nanocycle uses a unique solid state gyro to measure the gradient of the hill, and it applies power according to the gradient of the hill you are on. Its quite an amazing sensation that has not failed to put a smile on every riders face. There are no controls, they meet the new regs and are powered by a waterproof 1.3Kg :ithium…See More

"I agree with Cory - the 2 wheelers were pretty good given their high weight. It took a short time to get use to the unusual steering, but it was only 10 minutes for me too  "

"Hi Wendy,   as it happens I have been playing with one of the Dutch Cargo bikes offerings, but to be honest what I think you really need here is sheer battery capacity given the heavy load requirements, and poor efficiency of this type of…"

Stephen Gale replied to Chelsea Carey's discussion Electric Bikes - Improvements? Pros and Cons?
"The 1200W unit had one hell of a battery (actually 2 of them totalling about 30Ahrs at 36V!). In the UK they were being marketed as hybrid sport electric motor bikes (with pedals) - they are a tonne of fun, just not much to do with bikes as we know…"

Stephen Gale replied to Chelsea Carey's discussion Electric Bikes - Improvements? Pros and Cons?
"Many people complained 250W is too low (I have even heard the word Anemic used which is a strange adjective for an electric motor). The reality is 250W actually gives heaps of useful assistance to help get someone up a hill at an acceptable…"

Stephen Gale replied to Chelsea Carey's discussion Electric Bikes - Improvements? Pros and Cons?
"Hi Michael, in actual fact I have seen very few ebikes that are anywhere where near the legal limit, despite being advertised as such. There is a really simple reason for this - the more powerful bikes are more fun, and are easier to sell. Their…"

Stephen Gale replied to Chelsea Carey's discussion Electric Bikes - Improvements? Pros and Cons?
"Hi Chris, regards death on ebikes - its pretty easy - if you have to pedal, to get you going at 35Km/hr, you are typically fairly conscious of what you are doing. If all you need to do it twist a throttle, you may well not have a sufficient level of…"

Stephen Gale replied to Chelsea Carey's discussion Electric Bikes - Improvements? Pros and Cons?
"I Have had more than a little experience with elektric bikes. A few years ago, in a rather fun but crazy moment, I organized a ride for 20 or so people to ride from melbourne to Sydney on electric bikes. We got there, amid a reasonable amount of…"

Now tell us about your bicycles ...
I am bringing the Nanocycle to life! The nanocycle is a patented electric bicycle conversion, that results in an elegant ebike that is half the weight of anything out there, yet will last for many many years rather than one or two. A typical Nanocycle weighs around 12-13Kg, pulls hard up the hills, and has batteries that carry a three year warranty.
What is the best thing about riding?
Its so much more convenient than driving...!
A few words about yourself. (This bit is entirely optional!)
My company makes the electronics that makes garbage trucks run, and is looking to using its facilites to make the Nanocycles. I am an RAAF trained electronics engineer, a pilot and photographer. Soon I should have a doctorate in engineering (in the field of solar power generation) but first I do have a thesis to write up! Doesn't time kill you?
