Longer commuting to work

Thanks for comments. Yes will be about 30km one way so quite far! I am thinking of using early trains to break up or maybe cycle to the parkiteer cages at stations. Not sure if many people do this…

Hi new to forum. Just wondering if anyone here does long commutes to work - 30k or so by bike. Will be moving to the outer suburbs (Aspendale to Chelsea area) soon but would like to keep commuting in…

HI, I do the bike/train commute in lycra gear, I have had no issues in 3 years of commuting. My knicks are mostly black, but some have coloured side panels. My jerseys are mostly sponsor free or cartoon characters, so I don't look like a billboard.…

I drive & ride most days with an occasional direct ride in to work of 37km. I'm lucky to have showers at work, so I usully ride quite hard sitting on 27 to 34km/h. so getting to work hot & sweaty is normal and does not bother me. However, I'm always…

Before my back packed it in I was riding 50 km a day total. I fought tooth and nail to get a shower installed at work. When they fianlly did it was great. I found that its better to travel between 7 and 8 in the morning, significantly less traffic t…

I ride from Heidelberg West to Clayton for work which is about 30km there, 30km back. I'm pretty slow, so it takes about 1hour and a half. There are no trains so it's always riding both ways... Because there are no decent bike tracks and no bike lan…

Hi P I ride from Parkdale (next to Aspendale) to the City 3-4 times a week and find it no problems at all. The route I follow is 29km each way and takes approximately 1hr and 10mins. If I ride straight up the Nepean Hwy I can reduce the distance by…

Im Riding 40km each way a day at the moment, from Point Cook to Hampton, Its a bit of a hike, I am using my racing bike and its taking around 1:10 each way, but I am hammering the whole way, trying to sit on 40 - 45km along beach road. Its no proble…

I'd agree about the train times. With aggressive red lights, a headwind and a lazy attitude I can do my 15km one-way in 40 minutes. Home to work via bike and train takes 1 hour, 10 - 1 hour twenty walking. I take the train sometimes purely because I…

Yep, I commute to Chadstone and back from West Footscray, it's about 30KM. Time it takes to get on an train etc it's quicker to just ride the full distance. It normally takes me around 1:15ish depending on how I feel on the day. I don't think it's t…

I work about 42k from home. I usually go part way by train (Early Bird FREE fare, get off by 7am). However i commute mostly in the reverse flow direction. I take the train out of flinders street to the eastern burbs. The bicycle portion of the trip…

Paid bike parking seems to me like bringing to cycling one of the worst things about driving, but I'm a curmudgeon like that :-) I'd ride 1 day and leave the bike at home the next (60km isn't a huge distance in isolation), but I live within an ideal…

Is that 30 one way? Probably doable if you build up to it, and bikes are allowed on trains when you need a rest day or feel the need to bail going home. (It's conditionally, so check the rules.) 30 klicks round trip is relatively easy (again provid…

Dear P, 30km - one way?: Not at the moment... 30km - roundtrip: Most of the time, have no car, no problem. Whether or not you find it manageable depends on a whole lot more then just the distance you are intending to travel. Same applies to the qu…
