Little Bike Blog replied to Patrick's discussion French bicycles in Melbourne
"Thanks for the warning. Will be gentle. Here's a bit of trivia, I spoke to a guy who was on a Peugeot folder today and he said that in France in teh 60s-70s they were given away with luxury cars (presumably peugoet) - how about that?"

"Well indeed! I too ride a 1970s Gitane, (on the weekends anyway), it's a folding bike no less, and I love it. I don't know the engineering ins and outs but apparently they are very well made according to…"

"oh dear, my first wall post, which was a thinly disguised bit of shameless self-promotion, was a bit of a failure: the hyperlink got sucked into the universe and the picture turned up as a link. Come and visit my blog about little blogs where I…"

Little Bike Blog commented on RobE's group Style over Speed
"ladies sport.jpg What could demonstrate commitment to Style Over Speed more than getting about on a retro small-wheeled bike. They are hard work up a hill, but they look fabulous. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself :"

Style over Speed

Understated riding is style. In the vein of Tweed Cycling Club and Copenhagen Cycling Chic - here we can show love for the bicycle , and its affinity for steel, wool and leather, street shoes and comfy duds... share style over speed & enjoy.See More

Profile Information

What sort of riding do you do ?
Commuting, S.L.U.T (Sustainable Low Cost Transport)
Where in Melbourne or nearby do you live ?
Fitzroy
Now tell us about your bicycles ...
I haven't been off a bike since a purple 26 inch girls bike finally arrived on my 11th birthday, (in the decade when purple was as popular as orange and lime green). These days I mostly commute on a slightly long-in-the-tooth Shogun hybrid, nothing flash but looks cute with the the straight head- stem I put on a few years ago, making it a more upright ride and giving it a smart profile.

Other times, when there isn't far to go, I get about on a gorgeous 1970s emerald green Gitane folding bike. It's a bit of a struggle getting it up a hill, but otherwise it rides like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the sun.
What is the best thing about riding?
Everything except head winds. Oh and the fear of the car door.
A few words about yourself. (This bit is entirely optional!)
After I got my Gitane I started noticing other retro folding bikes, or cute little bikes that look like you could fold up them if you tried hard enough, all over my patch - Fitzroy. So I started snapping them on my phone. Eventually I had to do something with all the shots, so I started blogging them.

When I see a little retro bike, I photograph it and leave a calling card inviting people to visit the blog and tell me about their bike. And sometimes they do and that's the best bit. Love to share the little bike love.
