My Bike, MY BIKE! A Dingo has MY BIKE!

Posted on September 16, 2008 at 2:00pm 22 Comments

My tightarse single speed was stolen a while ago. It was actually my favourite bike. It was stolen from the front of my local boozery on busy Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. I was bloody angry at the time.

Last Friday about 1215 or so, I was sitting in a truck, in heavy traffic in Chrurch Street Richmond near the Swan Street intersection when a ghost appeared.

Travelling in the opposite direction was this hipster looking dude – ON MY BIKE. I knew… Continue

Spring is in the air - let's hope the weather holds up - Commuting in Spring, for me, is the best part apart riding.

You cant judge a Brooks by it's cover!

Well, I'll be buttered on both sides! After a few years of listening to others extolling the virtues of Brooks saddles, I have only just worked it out.

Now, out of the box, I didn't mind the feel of the Brooks. The ride was firm but fair. It's taken me about 500km of tweaking of the bike set up to actually find the right position.I tweaked the set up a bit using a laser level last sunday and changed a lot of the cause of the struggle to get… Continue

Hi Anne,

Doing a thing for The Age on people with cool bikes ... mainly photographic a la Velo Chic, but I liked your post about bike theft as a lead into a short written piece to go with it ... could we talk? My work phone number is 9601 2787, or you can email me at mholden@theage.com.au ...

Thanks,

Matt Holden

Hi Anne,

Bicycle Polo is a fun came, sort of a cross between horse polo and hockey, most importantly involving bikes :) If you want to read more about it, the first place to start would be wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Cycle_Polo or our flickgroup http://www.flickr.com/groups/melbournebikepolo/pool/

However, reading about it is nothing to playing a game. We play every sunday, 2-6pm Carlton Gardens on the car park next to the royal exhibition building. EVERYBODY is welcome, no matter what experience level you have in cycling.

Bikes people ride are anything between fixies to old mountain bikes, the main recommendation is to ride a bike you don't commute on everyday and doesn't cost too much as a few bicycle injuries sadly occur.

There are normally a few minor stacks, but bad injuries are rare, the exception so far has been "TheCaptian" who accidentally put his mallet in his front wheel while just riding around, before we started a game. Generally it is a safe game, people play to their level confidence.

Hope to see you there sometime soon, it is a highly addictive game and bunches of fun :)
