G'day Rob, I'm told that it was caused by spraying acrylic paint striaght over enammel.
If they had given it a sand first it might have been OK but really need to be stripped or primed.
Proving it was mine is a long story and I don't know what it was that convinced them in the end.
I supppose the fact that I reported it stolen, and the paint job and ground off serial number suggested that it was stolen was a good start. Then I had pics that I took, and that the bloke I bought it from had taken. It was a stock bike apart from one piece which the previous owner changed. I pointed this out as well and provided stock pics from the net, and pics of mine highlighting the changed part which was visible but not obvious.
Looks like they painted it with paint left over from the bedroom walls!
How did you prove it was yours?
