from Cozy Beehive:
PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE : Put doping aside for a moment and check this short photo essay of the Tour de France from Magnum Photos. The background music and colorful narration by Danish poet Jørgen Leth explores the history, poetry and beauty behind the greatest of the Grand Tours through 60 years of photographs. 5 stars!

...ditto

surprise, surprise, bloody Ricco. Im sick of everyone saying how boring Cadel is to watch when every year in the mountains, these dopers have him in the hurt box going up the bergs. If we clear out all the blokes who are on the elephant juice i think we would see a different race with guys like cadel and sastre actually able to put on a show for us.

Ohh and the Dodger!!, sadly Micheal Rodgers isnt riding either in this year's Tour... going from leader on the road in 07 and crashing out tragically on that sad day (when Stuey also went out in a catastophic bingle that almost claimed his life)... jeepers... come back soon Mick!

I wish all our guys a safe passage to Paris and the accolades of the world for the toughest bunch of warriors in the peleton.
Can you imagine the euphoria across this country should there be a plethora of Aussies on the Podiums throughout LeTour and on that final day one of them stands tall above all the others with the big blue and gold bowl ...woohooogazoots!!

Well the TdeF has announced the riders they consider acceptable for this years jaunt around the land of sunflowers, escargot and detached frogslegs ( with garlic and a Puilly Fuisse)

And as for the Aussies riding here is the list ( note I said Aussies riding- not Aussies registered) as I include Heinrich Haussler*, if ever there was a boy from the bush its him (born and raised in Inverell NSW. went to Ger at age 15. ( well Cadel is a bushy but he's the definitive tropics bush boy)... OK here we go

in no particular order

1. Baden Cooke (Barloworld)
2. Adam Hansen (Columbia)
3. Simon Gerrans ( Credit Agricole)
4. Mark Renshaw (Credit Agricole)
5. Stuart O'Grady ( CSC-Saxo Bank)
6. Trent Lowe ( Garmin - Chipotle - H30)
7. Heinrcih haussler (Ger*) (Gerolsteiner)
8. Brett Lancaster ( Milram)
9. Cadel Evans ( Silence Lotto)
10. Robbie McEwen (Silence Lotto)
Omissions from the lineup Mathew Lloyd (Current Aust RR Champ-Silence Lotto) , too young? too soon, should be riding instead of RM perhaps... and sadly Brad MgGee, but we should see Brad at the Beijimpics...a few others good enough to be there too, but they either have an issue with WADA over their medication, their Team isnt entered (acceptable to TdeF poer brokers) etc etc.
Now we settle in for the late nights and nibbles for the next month... just a few more sleeps !! :)

Yes please!

How about a local version of the TdF Drinking Game on one of the mountain stages?
