Style over Speed

Understated riding is style. In the vein of Tweed Cycling Club and Copenhagen Cycling Chic - here we can show love for the bicycle , and its affinity for steel, wool and leather, street shoes and comfy duds... share style over speed & enjoy.

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking. -Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world. -Grant Peterson

The bicycle is the most efficient machine ever created: Converting calories into gas, a bicycle gets the equivalent of three thousand miles per gallon. -Bill Strickland

Ride lots. -Eddy Merckx

Freestyle Cyclists of Victoria : Spring Ride and Get Together

Group Description : We are a Victorian based group whose members believe bicycle helmets should be a matter of choice and not compulsion by law.

Our spring ride takes place on Sunday, November 13 commencing at Federation Square at 10.20 for a 10.30 departure.

The ride is mostly off road, on flat terrain and is about 16km. It commences at Southbank, proceeds to Beaconsfield Parade, continues along Fitzroy St to Albert Park Reserve where there is a good playground and picnic lunch spot. The ride returns to the City via Cecil St.

If this interests you, you can contact me for further information on 03 54 226216

or 0400 502 325. You can also join the facebook group  Freestyle Cyclists of Victoria.

Hi SoS members, I am a freelance journalist putting together a piece on vintage bicycles.  Why you like riding them, where you like riding them...especially if you're in the St Kilda area.  Also, if there are any rides specific to vintage or vintage-style bikes?  If you're keen to contribute and spread the love please contact me directly at

oh dear, my first wall post, which was a thinly disguised bit of shameless self-promotion, was a bit of a failure: the hyperlink got sucked into the universe and the picture turned up as a link. Come and visit my blog about little blogs where I (usually) get it right. (hmmm, that hyperlink looks exactly like the one I inserted last time ...maybe I will just do some good old fashioned typing incase it goes pear shaped again:

What could demonstrate commitment to Style Over Speed more than getting about on a retro small-wheeled bike. They are hard work up a hill, but they look fabulous.

Don't take my word for it, see for yourself :

"I'm not in your hurry" now there is a bumper/top-bar/helmet/back-pack sticker inspiration ... the perfect reply to the character yelling "I'm in a hurry"... well its his hurry, get up ealier, leave earlier, plan better, slow down...

"The secret of riding a bicycle as an adult is to pedal just hard enough to keep the machine upright, then to increase speed very gradually, but without becoming too breathless to hold a conversation or hum a tune."
