Cycling in Melbourne Australia
Strava grew out of our own needs as athletes. With busy lives requiring much solo training, we missed the sense of camaraderie and friendly competition that drove us to achieve our best through training with others. We envisioned Strava as the means to put our workouts and races into context. We call that social fitness.
Today, Strava lets athletes all over the world experience social fitness – sharing, comparing and competing with each other's personal fitness data via mobile and online apps. Currently focused on the needs of avid cyclists and runners, Strava lets you track your rides and runs via your iPhone, Android or dedicated GPS device to analyze and quantify your performance. Strava makes fitness a social experience, providing motivation and camaraderie even if you’re exercising alone.

Comment by Chris Harris on June 25, 2012 at 11:16pm I did it in 3:10 and felt it.
How many of you rode in the Roobaix yesterday. When I posted my ride I noted that I and 14 others rode a similar course. Today I see that I and 43 others rode the course.
I was most interested in the times taken to ride the Koppenburg nearly the first 3 pages are from yesterdays event. I suppose it is not a regular ride route for most but the fastest time of 1.20 makes my puny 3.16 look like a joke. How can these guys move so fast?
Comment by Chris Harris on April 9, 2012 at 11:27am Hi Sally, that 3 Peaks ride looks pretty mean. 235km and total climb of 4357m.
I don't think I'll be attempting that any time soon.
The Beechworth one looks more my style.
I hope to get up that way in the spring for a peal and roll or two.
Comment by Sally Rodgers on March 13, 2012 at 10:23am A very handy tool to checking out popular local rides while you are on holidays in another town or region.
Have a look at the data from one of the riders who completed the 3 Peaks Challenge Ride on the weekend. http://app.strava.com/rides/5104050
Or for a much more leisurely down hill ride. http://app.strava.com/rides/4318153
Comment by stib on March 13, 2012 at 9:44am Great idea. Be good to see some more commuter riders on strava.
Looks good Damian, thanks for that. It will be interesting to see the take-up from both Sydney and Brisbane. I think Adelaide have there own group. But, they have a whole heap registered on the Strava site.
I've added the Strava activity thing to the main site nav, that should get a few people interested!
That's a great idea Jack! I'll set one up for Sydney too.
