Except it seems a few on this site, to say the 51 thing has been building for months, from 51’s perspective at least is rubbish.  As Cobbles rightly pointed out the wrong end of the stick has been grabbed a hold of.  Apart from a degree of frustration about the pedalling of mistruths (hence this post) I can personally vouch it’s barely occupied a moments attention among 51.

For the past 6 months at least, 51 has consisted essentially of Sherl, Tony, Indi, Leigh, Trent, Myself, Jonesy, Eddie, Pickles and Trav when he’s not working.

Can someone please explain to me when any of these people have cut the cats group up?  On not a single occasion have I heard from anyone above “let’s go hit the cats”.  Monday, a light day, is the day where generally 51 will meet the cats.  Typically its 3 or 4 blokes.  Again on not a single occasion have I seen any of our crew cut the cats bunch up.

It seems the difficulty lies in those not being capable or unwilling to discern who rides at 51 and who doesn’t.  It is lazy to continue the mindless ranting and take easy cheap shots in the collective at a group instead of having the courage call aside the actual perpetrators for a discussion about safety if that’s your concern.

Finally on the point of group exclusivity, some groups ride faster, some slower and the mood of a bunch evolves constantly. The cats are no different in this regard to any other.  The route most popular with cyclists around the town is chosen due to a general lack of traffic.  Last time I checked no one group had a mortgage on a piece of bitumen. Cycling groups of different levels around the world converge and diverge. If you’re travelling on the freeway and a cars are doing 130 are you compelled to follow?  Would you then blame them if you’re caught for speeding? So if you don’t have the clarity of thought, the maturity and independence of mind to make the correct decision with respect to your ability or the way you wish to ride on a particular day then it might be best for all if some did in fact find somewhere else to ride.

Instead of the precious naval gazing, finger pointing, misinformed, mindless hysteria being posted on the websites in recent months that achieves nothing except division it would be far more productive for all to reflect on their personal responsibility, get the facts right, have the courage to have a mature discussion with someone you have a beef with based on facts and grow up.

that is all

Post 1 of 2.

This is not generally a forum I prefer to express my views but the misinformed rubbish appearing on the websites recently cannot continue unquestioned.

Yesterday I read with interest possibly the best piece of fiction since the Harry Potter series; placing the blame for an ordinary ride at the feet of 51.  I believe Sherl (Lostso) and Cobbles (Mangi) have succinctly clarified the facts around this.

In recent times this seems to typify the misinformation, hysteria, and mindless following of another’s rant to form what those incapable of independent thought then deem to be fact.

We are all guilty of poor decision making on the roads, but it’s the height of hypocrisy to continue ranting on the website about ‘everyone’ else.

To site a few isolated in examples. In the same recent period I’ve witnessed:

  • The cats plough through a give way sign into the 51 bunch at Old Dookie and Boundary.  There was no apology, remarkably one person actually defended it!
  • Witnessed one rider almost mown down 3 times in one Monday morning because instead of coming back down inline they were on their own, dead centre in the right hand lane of the road with a car approaching from behind on each occasion.  They later posted on the website ‘great ride this morning ave 39.5’ blindly unaware the grief they’d caused 3 motorists!
  • Sat in the bunch on another Monday and watched 4 blokes who don’t ride with 51 cut the cats to ribbons in a cross wind and all I heard was f…51, 51 dickheads, 51 wankers and on it went.
  • Rolled through amiably with the cats bunch one morning with Sherl, Tony, Jonesy and Davo only to be told f..k off dickheads.
  • I could go on.

The point of outlining these instances is not to apportion blame or suggest we’re without fault but perhaps some recognising of fact from fiction, self-reflection and personal responsibility might be better received and serve a more productive purpose.

A frustrated wife buys a pair of crotchless panties in an attempt to spice up her dead sex-life. She puts them on, together with a short skirt and sits on the sofa opposite her husband sipping a glass of wine.
At a strategic moment she uncrossed her legs wide enough that her husband asked, "Are you wearing crotchless panties?"

"Yes, I am!" she answers with a seductive smile.

"Oh, thank God, I thought you were sitting on the cat."

He never saw the glass coming.

this was strad

You're right, Jon - this is crazy. If you wanna ride with the Cats, ride like the Cats. We look after each other, and don't leave quality blokes out the arse - normally. We like it fast but smooth, so when guys that are too fit to be riding with us can't help the dick-slapping, it all does pear-shaped and it gets dangerous.

Honestly, 51 and other strong guys - just go ride somewhere else. How can there be any benefit to you from pushing our pace up to the point guys are OTA. You only need five or six for a decent hit out.

If it doesn't settle down, in the interests of avoiding a major incident, I'm going to find somewhere else to ride. It's just crazy unsafe.

Enjoy the ride the way we like to ride, or fuck off. Nuff said.

Nar the blame falls on all,  the whole lot, for letting this continue and our boys are just as much to blame. Could have tipped 10 or more off this morn and the front would not have given a shit.  You have ridden with us enough the last few months mate is that how we roll ?, I think not.

I made at least 3-4 calls to ease up and it got faster. the race on Saturday night was 3 times safer than that shit.

We don't mind anyone riding with us but ride like us is all we ask. after all EVERYONE WANTS TO BE A CAT

The 51 thing has been building the last few months as your numbers drop off and it becomes a racers bunch, why would  you wait for us old fukwits anyway ?

We are not an object to play with when anyone feels like, "lets go hit the cats" It is all good while its going ok but there is a big crash coming if it stays like this and I wont be in it  I have to much to do.

So Cobbles I don't blame the three of you this morn you were just doing what the rest of the dickheads were doing but most of them were not cats, apart from sly, welsy and Phil..

thanks for your thoughts.

Now Matho lets not let the truth get in the way of a good story. "Truth be known"

51 had nothing to do with what happened this morning. There was about 20 blokes from your bunch in front of you when "we" hit the log. Make no mistake it was a big log, I don't know how those 20 blokes didn't see it & didn't call it. Anyway enough of the Hysteria & forget the blame game. Enjoy the ride.

Gee Matho, you have got the wrong end of the stick on this one. And that's not the stick that was lying across the road in Kialla Central.

There was only me, Sherls and Tony who started at the 51 roundabout this morn and I don't recall any of us smashing through. (And it wouldn't have been me 'cos I couldn't!)

I agree it was a very ordinary ride with the speed going up and down all the time and the bunch going from one side of the road to the other, but I think you might have to pick another target to blame.

They do the same thing every day, make the catch, reload and fire again.

It takes maturity to show restraint and let them go and leadership to hold your bunch back so there is no repeat of this morning

It's like moving next to an airport then complaining about the noise...
