Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Hello, I'm 21 years old and would make a trip across Australia next year.
After riding the crocodile throphy I would like to cruise around and ride some road races
in the melbourne area. Are there websites with a calender with races or people who ride competition road cycling that could help me out. greets robbe.

Robbe,

Melbourne cycling clubs incl. St Kilda Cycling (www.skcc.com.au); Caulfield Carnegie (www.carnegiecycling.com.au); Hawthorn CC (www.hawthrorncycling.org); Brunswick (www.brunswickcyclingclub.com); Footscray (www.footscraycc.com.au) plus others. Most of these clubs hold some sort of criterium (summer) or road races (mostly in winter). You will need a race license (annual, 1-day or 3-day permit) to participate. Have fun.
God Verdamme Rob there is also the Saturday crit with coburg. Here is a link for all the Suburban clubs in melbourne and country victoria.

The fella below has already nicely given you the links to all the club crits for summer except coburg which is http://www.coburgcycling.com.au/.

Tuesday and thursdays Brunswick and Northcote put on track nights at DISC(thats our beautiful indoor wooden track). Track cycling is relatively big in australia. There are heaps of velodromes in the country towns as well as melbourne. And you can probably borrow a bike of one of the clubs for free if you race. You can also hire one most days at the track if you just wanna spin around. You just have to check for availability though as a lot of teams and such train on it. Its 5 dollars an hour and 10 for a bike. if youre racing its just 10 to enter the race. The same prices apply to crits and road races. Some crits are 12 dollars. You'll need your own bike for these though.

The country clubs also have loads going on and Look at the link- Race Callender- for open events. Also there should be a link to cycle australia on the left of the page that comes and goes. this should give you more links to all the state cycling associations if you wanna race everywhere.

For winter time in melbourne there is the northern combine which puts on Road races.http://www.northerncombinecycling.org/

It might pay to get an international license to race before you get here if you want to race a lot or you can join one of the clubs when you get here. All the info regarding that is on the site with the list of clubs .
