Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Hello darkness, my old friend. I've come to talk with you about bicycle lights again.

Any other good tips or heads up, I saw a excellent steady LED light with a flashing pulse tonight & wouldn't mind finding out what brand it was or similar.

I've had to break out my Dinotte lights again for the early mornings. Still very happy with those.

This year I upped my budget for bike lights to the astonishing sum of $35, and got one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170691177255

Now the mount is kind of flimsy, but the light is bloody bright. Riding down Yarra Boulevarde in pitch blackness last night I was overtaken by a motorcycle, and as it passed I could see that the beam from my lights was notably brighter than theirs. It's bright enough that I've been getting comments from passing motorists about how bright it is, which means the buggers are actually seeing me - amazing!

It has rechargeable Li-ion batteries, comes with recharger and seems to have enough juice for more than an hour of riding - I've yet to run it flat, even taking the long way home.

Only time will tell how well it lasts – it does get warm and I wouldn't be completely surprised if it didn't end up cooking the LED, but as far as bang for buck goes I thoroughly recommend them. I might get another for a helmet light, but then I'd probably need to wear sunglasses.

Cygolite. Excellent, chargeable via USB (great for commuters) and it lasts for ages.

I think it's a good idea to have the front flasher on at all times: day and night. I hope this reduces the possibility of the door -prize.

I've recently mounted a sensor (movement and light) cateye to the rear rack, means I've got it there to come on as it gets darker. I'm also a fan of small led's on the my helmet, means that cars more than one Car behind can see as well.
