Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Here's one for all the Bike nerds that want to post pictures of their commute on Melbourne Cyclist without taking your hands off the bars.

The "under $10, done in 10 minutes camera handlebar mount.

If you ever wanted to, here's a neat little how to.

Does it work? I was going to muck around with it over the next couple of days.

Done (OK a little more than 10 mins...I had to scrounge around for a suitable mount)

Can't see any good reason why it shouldn't work. When this rain stops I'll scoot up the street and back for a test.

OK two things need to be looked at. Firstly you can hear the batteries rattling (Easily fixed with some paper wedged into the holder), and secondly I need to add a better rubber mount to combat the shaking. Other than those I think it works pretty well.

is that the batteries making that rattling sound? how would you go about dampening the mount, a piece of innertube between the bars and mount maybe?

That's not the batteries! That's Oz's teeth chattering because it's so F*(&%%^$&* cold up there in the hills.

Pretty cool though - nice work

It probably is not the batteries I have the same noise coming from my camera mount and I expect it is the spokes creating it. I will upload some vision over the weekend the video quality here is very clear compared to a lot of the stuff I have uploaded to youtube.
My camera is mounted to the frame and cushioned with some 3.0mm polyethelene foam.
Nice vision from the handlebar mount, not goood for me as I would wobble too much.

Jack.

Add a GPS, and auto-picture capture, and you'll be giving Google Street View a run for its money.....

PS maybe you could capture the numberplates of cars that cut you off with this setup? Link say the button of an AirZone horn into the camera as well, and hey presto, give them a blast to let them know how much of a moron they are, while capturing their details.....

PS helmet mounted cameras are far superior, your body is the best suspension available....

I find I look around too much to wear my camera head mounted ... the footage makes me sea-sick when I watch it!

I've also found vibration can be reduced by mounting the camera as close to the hub of the wheel as possible ... so as close as possible to the hub on the front forks is best for me.
