Cycling in Melbourne Australia
We meet every Sunday at 08.45am for a ride starting at 9am at Cafe Racer. Riding along Beach Road, [about 25-35km/hr] to Mordy/Frankston. We also do other rides around Melbourne including Climbs (7 peaks), Organised rides (MAD, BAD, Otway, ATB, etc) and MTB . Riding and enjoying a laugh is the focus, so make sure you bring your sense of humour!! Oh, ensure your bike and kit are clean/well maintained - don't want any unnecessary accidents. *If you want to join 9ers, your request will be accepted, but you'll need to do at least 2 rides each month for your membership to be maintained :)

Comment by Heather on July 1, 2012 at 6:21pm Well three of us 9 O's [Tim, Andrea & I] flew the flag today, albiet with another group through Meetup. It made a nice change to meet other great cyclists and ride somewhere we hadn't been before - yeah the weather was atrocious, but still worth getting onto the pedals! Isn't it always :) The 3 of us are planning on a 9 O's ride next Sunday so Tracey, Patrick, Angie and anyone else from today - you're most welcome to join us!!
Comment by Mark Paterson on June 28, 2012 at 10:32pm I've ordered quite a few of those stickers and will be handing'em. This video demonstrates why we have to raise awareness. Read the comments the cops didn't even realise it was an offence.
Comment by Heather on June 28, 2012 at 6:41pm Hi Andrea. soooooo good you're back!!! Tim and I are doing the ride on Sunday through Meetup Site and it's called The Inner Orbital Ride, about 43km on a bike path loop - I'll be riding my flat bar. I'm planning on riding from home so the round trip will be about 70km, so if you're going too want to meet up at NAB at 0915, time for a coffee? Looks like it might be a bit wet but, oh well - I'll only pull out on the morning if the radar looks bad. Anyway, to join the ride you'll need to go to meetup and RSVP - if you're not a member let me know and I'll change my rsvp to two guests (Tim is already one)! The Group running it is called Melbourne Cycling. Glad you're keeping Miss Willier, gotta keep the roadie!!! Can't wait to catch up!!!
Mark: I ordered my stickers too, thanks for that!
Comment by Andrea Newson on June 27, 2012 at 10:55pm Hi Everyone!
Been awhile.....
Steve...bones heal and chicks dig scars....but you are married so I guess that wont count for you! - Kask helmet: love it. Most comfy helmet I have ever put on my head - bought mine at Port Melbourne Cycles, was $299.
Heather: Whats the deal with the 10am Fed Square ride? I am keen as its been a while since I have done anything other than commute on the bike (had a dose of the flu for about 2 weeks...ugh!) might even have a tag along as a guy here at work got himself a shiny Colonago and wants to get back into cycling - so of course, have told him about 9 O'Clockers and he is keen!
Tim: How's the showering going? :-P As for my Wilier...I am keeping her...but I also have a Giant Reign 2 on layby lol A few people have had good long chats with me and convinced me I really do need 2 bikes....not just one....haha
Mark: Thanks for the link for the stickers - I have ordered some and plan on giving them out here at work. When your own workmates treat you like a second class citizen when on the road, yet want to work with you...well its time to start edumacting people...besides...our new boss here is a mad keen cyclist....yay!
Comment by Mark Paterson on June 26, 2012 at 10:49pm The Amy Gillet Facebook page just posted this info below, Thought it might be of interest and you could order a few Anti-Dooring stickers to hand out.
"VicRoads have fulfilled their commitment to mass produce an anti-dooring sticker to remind drivers and passengers to check for bike riders around them before opening their car. 100,000 sticker packs (with 4 clear stickers and a bumper sticker) is a good start, however it is exactly that - a start.
To do the job properly the production needs to be at least tenfold for Victoria alone, AND have them posted out in every new registration and registration renewal for the next 12 months so that every motorist gets a pack. Not just preaching to the converted.
Time to go to the VicRoads website now, order your batch of 100 and give them to every motorist you know."

Comment by Tim on June 26, 2012 at 2:35am Hi there Steve, hope you are managing to get stuff done rather than getting bored.the kask, i tried one and yes they fit like a glove, and talking about Andrea, are you back on the Mountain bike? did you sell the wilier as yet?
Comment by Heather on June 25, 2012 at 8:52pm Steve, you forgot to say it was a cycling fall - the type none of us want to experience. I won't be doing the ride this Sunday with the 9 O's as I'm doing another one which leave from Federation Square at 10am, come along to that one if you can!!
Comment by Steve Winnall on June 24, 2012 at 11:10pm Hi everyone
Just to let you know I had a bit of a fall 4 weeks ago and fell and broke my hip, yuk!!
Had operation with metal and pins etc. Will be of the bike for a few weeks yet but fear not I will return as I miss the Sunday ride and crew a lot.
Andrea, also broke my helmet. Need a new one. I noticed you have a Kask helmet. Unusual brand but looks good on the reviews. How do you like it and where did you buy it?
Comment by Heather on June 19, 2012 at 6:30pm Anyone joining Tim and I for a ride on Sunday :)
Comment by Mark Paterson on June 10, 2012 at 9:20pm Thanks Heather, it was good to see both you and Tim again. Promise to join you again my next free Sunday. It got a bit damp on my return leg so ended up spending the afternoon cleaning up the bike, White bikes and road grime don't go well.
