Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Information

9ers

We meet every Sunday at 08.45am for a ride starting at 9am at Cafe Racer.  Riding along Beach Road, [about 25-35km/hr] to Mordy/Frankston. We also do other rides around Melbourne including Climbs (7 peaks), Organised rides (MAD, BAD, Otway, ATB, etc) and MTB .  Riding and enjoying a laugh is the focus, so make sure you bring your sense of humour!! Oh, ensure your bike and kit are clean/well maintained - don't want any unnecessary accidents. *If you want to join 9ers, your request will be accepted, but you'll need to do at least 2 rides each month for your membership to be maintained :)

Hi Daniel, we usually sit on between 25 and 35 km/hour, depending on who turns up on the day :)

Hi,

This group sounds really great. May I ask what is your usual average speed? I am not sure if I can keep up.

Another enjoyable ride today with me, Steve, Tim and his mate Malcolm turning up.  Steve and I watched the Crit in Sth Melbourne beforehand and now agree with Andrea and Tim:  wouldn't mind having a go at that!  Though will hang out for the next Clinic before the attempt.  Malcolm it was great to meet you and thanks for the scenic tour on the way to Black Rock, nice speed too, though I think we'll give "cafe armpit" a miss from now on!!  Tim, Andrea and I are attending the bunch riding clinic next Sunday from 830 to 930 so don't think we'll get to the 9 Oclockers.  Andrea, do you want to meet at Costco at 0730 next Sunday?

Hi Alex, last year I wore knicks, jersey and arm warmers: the top temp got to 6c and everybody froze the whole way!  We had our car heaters at max and were still shivering when we got home:  This year, longs and my winter jersey!!  But the atmosphere was fantastic, all the volunteers and marshalls were locals, and the riders were from everywhere - a great country ride with 'organised ride' routes.  I'm sure the MTB will be as wonderful as the roadie: regional areas know how to do it well.

Looks pretty cool. I'd be tempted to do the 60 kay MTB option on the 'cross bike. Sounds like fun anyway!

Is anyone interested in doing the MAD ride this year?  It's in Woodend on 1 Apr 12, I did the 65km option last year, really cold, but a lot of hills and country hospitality: it was great fun!  Here's the link:
