Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/cyclists-do-not-have-the-...

this crass stupidity by a politician who misled Parliament http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/sunday-telegraph/carl-scully-...

and is now an aider and abetter of interesting major projects ignores so much, I barely know where to start.

Under the laws of the various states, bike riders have responsibilities and RIGHTS just like car drivers.

But, societal impact of cycling at peak hours is beneficial vs car use being detrimental, so why not put more people on bikes by making it safer to use a bike.

Nah, carl scully reckons cyclists are dangerous and so should be banned from the roads - logic then says (politicians ignore as logic rarely seems to figure in your decision making) that cars which are the cause of the most accidents on the roads should be removed forthwith!

I can see myself being dangerous if I were to carry a flail one metre long that was twirled around - Mr Car Driver, you keep one metre clear of me and no harm to either of us!!

Here is a story of someone using the roads correctly and being killed

The supercilious comments of a misleader of parliament are so tawdry when compared to this recounting of an injury and its aftermath
Have a gander at this, the Social Responsibility page on Evans & Pecks website.

Carl Scully is the former NSW minister for roads and is now a principal at Evans & Peck Pty Ltd.

pisser!

did i mention hypocrisy? this rejected politician has it in spades
Actually, motorists don't have rights. The term licence means privilege, the granting of CONDITIONAL access to an opportunity or activity.

As individuals, regardless of whether we are cyclists or motorists, we are bound by the social contract of law and order. The difference between a right and privilege is, for a right, the punishment of breaking the law cannot be denial of that activity or opportunity.

If I drink alcohol then cycle, I can be fined, possibly even have the bike I was riding confiscated, but I can't be banned from cycling. That is a right.

Blow 0.05+ behind the wheel of a car, and I'll be walking or cycling for a few months before I drive again. That is a privilege.
