Cycling in Melbourne Australia
I had a nice walk into work this morning after clipping a railway sleeper as I was transiting from a road to a bike path. I found that deraileurs don't quite work as well after you wrap them around your rear wheel, and rip them out of the hanger (see photo!).
I guess that means I'm up for a new bike since you probably can't buy the right hanger any more... and a new deraileur will probably be more than half the cost of a new bike!

I recently dropped off 3 bikes to the Bike Shed at CERES in Brunswick.

Permalink Reply by John E. on March 29, 2012 at 8:59pm That bike must be a real PoS if it's worth less than a hanger + derailluer; get the hanger online and pick up a second hand D'r.! Probably less than $30.
There are lots of different hangers but you should be able to track one down - there are some 'generic' ones which fit lots of (cheaper) frames too. Pickup a derailluer from cash converters or bicycle recycle or eBay. If you have your heart set on a new bike, fix that one & keep it as a spare if something tragic happens again.

Plenty of hangers on ebay and bike sites such as chain reaction cycles.

If you sort of put your two halves together you should be able to find a match.
And derailers are about $30+
Unless you're peeved with the bike for some other reason, it's worth fixing.
