Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Recycled fixed gear stories. meh.

Young people on bikes. meh.

NY Bike Snob taking potshots at local product. Ouch.

Anyway, all the cool kids have long moved onto hub gears and Schlumpf Mountain Drive.

Riding a bike is so much fun, but somehow that's not important anymore.

Just sayin'

I knew I'd be a "cool kid" one day
I love being unfashionably daggy. It's more cool to be you're own subset that isn't locked into trendy groupthink or requires a tokenistic pat on the head, hence I can look in the mirror every morning and see a fkn awesome chick staring back. Now that's awesome.
"never forget your beginner's spirit" is one of the reasons I decided against pursuing elite sport (not cycling though) - too many people at the top have forgotten it and I didn't want to associate with or be associated with such wankers.
fyi - think that's on Lances time trial bike for Stage 18.

Intriguing or marketing wank?
ah.

tis all I gots to say there.
*penny drops*

BTW - welcome back from Vanuatu. You'll find it somewhat cooler here at the moment.
Yup, I'm freezing my arse off!
Bike Snob went in too hard, it's simply some locals having fun, an easy soft target via the keyboard. Although the birdcage as helmet device was disconcerting.

Now heres rap about bike racks. Thus proving you can rap about virtually anything.

I still don't understand why the Melbourne buses don't use this system.
Why not? Short answer: a unholy mixture of bureaucratic bean counters and short-thinking politicians locked into policy developed via media popularity pissing contests.

Oh noes, noticed I typed "you're" instead of "your" in a previous reply. Now excuse moi as I put on the hair shirt and pay penance to the grammar gods.
Self-flagellation please, and post pix!

(You're also on notice for "awesome" (ab)use. Awe: "1. an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime. 2. a. dread, terror b. the power to inspire dread." I think there are very few awesome people in Melbs, and for that I'm thankful. You're quite inspirational and thoughtful though! Carry on.)

I think we don't have 'pedestrian traps' on our buses because

1) our sleepy/aggro drivers would pulp iPodestrians in the city with them

2) there is so much hatin' out there against cyclists that such a move would draw too much negative press. That and the perception that it would delay buses. If/when the hate goes, they might stand a chance.
Beginner's spirit. That'd be "Southern Comfort", wouldn't it?
