Permalink Reply by Alan Field on March 13, 2012 at 7:35pm Hi, I live in Rowville, there is a regular bike group that rides from Heathmont and meet for coffee at Jells Tea house at 8am every Saturday morning(this is where I will meet them when I am not working, I am a shiftworker) and I ride back to Heathmont with them and then ride home, about 40km. The group ride is very easy with a couple of breaks to allow slower riders to catch up, average age would be about 50, mostly men and some women. I am guessing the average size of the group would be about 30, but could be up to 40+ on a good day.
They also have another regular ride at about 7am every Tuesday from Heathmont and I meet them at about 7:40 the other side of Jell, near Shepard's Bush Rd, they ride up to the strip of shops just past Knox SC on Stud road for coffee and they ride back via FTG, Boronia and Bayswater then Heathmont. This group is a bit smaller of about 20.
The average speed would be about 17k/h, this is not a club just a social group, they also have maybe 4 rides a year to other destinations, like the Warby trail, Wang to Bright rail trail etc.
There is also a another smaller group about 4-6 that rides on a Thursday morning, pace is closer to 20k/h and distance is normally over 60km.

Permalink Reply by Brendan Edwards on March 30, 2012 at 4:04pm There are two groups that I'm familiar with in your area. Lysterfield Lake has two Mountain Biking Groups which ride Tuesday & Wednesday nights after 6pm. You would need some good bike lights if you are interested. Contact the Trailmix cafe' if you need any further information: http://www.trailmix.com.au/
Also Bicycle Superstore at Knox has recently opened up and are running ride groups for bike tracks, mountain biking & road riding. If you need any further information: http://www.bicyclesuperstore.com.au/store-location/knox/
Both of these groups are free entry and are a great friendly social ride.
