Cycling in Melbourne Australia
Hi all,
I arrive in melbourne from UK on 11th. I'll have my bike with me and could do with riding with someone/group who knows melbourne and about. I'm into all sorts of riding from MTB, road, touring. I'll have a Dawes Super Galaxy (touring bike) so won't be up for fast riding. If any one fancies a ride let me know for next weekend.
Cheers, Sipps.

Hi Sipps, welcome to Melbourne.
Are you just visiting on holiday or longer. What area are you planning to stay in.
There are plenty of places to take your tourer, also there are many groups that you could tag along with. I expect if you were more specific with your details then you may receive some more comments and maybe offers to join a group. Looking at the date of the post I expect you are already en-route to Heathrow for the trip downunder.
Jack.

Thanks for the reply! I'm staying at the metro YHA in north melbourne near the queen victoria market. I'll be there for 2 weeks then I plan to do some touring around victoria. I arrive on the evening of 12th April. So, looking to go biking next Sunday 15th.

I'm not in town to go riding with you but I'd suggest the Warburton Rail Trail as a gorgeous day ride. (2 days if you want time to chill out in Warburton).
There are some good shorter tracks at Lysterfield Park near Dandenong. I hear there's awesome riding to be done around the Wombat State Forest and Lerderderg State Park to the northwest of Melb but I haven't been there or know what the surface is like. Check out Bicycle Victoria's where to ride page for more suggestions.
Have fun :)

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated
Hi again Sipps,
I think Milo does not realise what type of bike you have. Most of the suggestions are for MTB's and probably Hybrids with suspension.
Also a lot of them are a long way from Richmond.
My suggestion would be to hook up with the 9 o'clockers and at least meet them at the start of the regular Sunday ride. Either stick with them or go your own pace. You cannot return home without at least one loop of Beach Road. From Richmond head out on the Main Yarra Trail Anniversary Trail and probably the Gardeners Creek Trail. If you really feel energetic try this one It may stretch out your legs a bit.
Hope this helps.

Warburton trail is definitely fine for tour bikes though.
Permalink Reply by Georgie F-J on July 23, 2012 at 5:25pm Hi - bit belated, hope you've arrived ok and enjoyed some riding. I am looking to buy a 2nd hand Dawes Galaxy (or Super) - are you by any chance looking to sell it (ideally it would be a 53 or 54cm frame!), or know anyone that is - even if in UK? Cheers, Georgie
