Question - Bike Route from Northcote to Port Melbourne on paths not roads?

Hi,
I'm planning on riding my cargo bike from Northcote to Port Melbourne (near Station Pier) with 2 kids on the front tomorrow.  Can I get there on Paths rather than on road?

Thanks so much

Merri Creek, then you can make it from the Capital City Trail all the way to Docklands (athough, there is a hairpin and a very steep downhill section just near Flemington Bridge station).

There's then a bike path that heads from South Melbourne to Port Melbourne. The tricky bit is getting from Docklands to South Melbourne. There's not really an easy way, without some road and/or footpath riding.
And here's a link in that tricky bit. The whole Lorimer/Under Fwy bit is a mess, however. Probably footpaths through there (you will be accompanying an under 12 yr old, after all). ;)

Thanks Cory, great tips. Just looking at the map now. I'm happy to do a bit of footpath riding with young children. Beautiful day for it!

Cheers

Have a look at the Merri, Capital City and Sandridge Trails - see pull down list on this map
Thanks Zed, thinking that might work best perhaps up Canning St, a bit of footpath work (have kids on board!) and then down to Capital City trail near Birrarung Marr then on over to Sandridge Trail which goes along the light rail by the looks of it. Thanks for response!

Twas a great day eh?
An awesome day Cory, not too hot. Recovering from the big ride today, it ended up taking me almost 2 hours each way! I'm verrry slow but we had a great ride through the city which slowed things up but nice to ride through with the kids on board. Thanks for the tips and have a great week!

Cheers

I am so impressed that you rode 2 hours each way to the picnic in Port Melbourne. I missed it! but I've seen the photos from the day.
Hi Janet, I can't believe it either. My body is feeling fine which is a surprise. Where did you see the photos, I've keen to see them also.

Cheers

Thanks Janet!
Lots of pix here too (sorry... I had some issues with the CF card from my camera, and had to resurrect stuff, so there's a few doubles).
