Has anyone done it and can recommend a road route they've used ?

Its just past sheparton and Banella and i figure these are places people may have rode out to before.

Looking to head up there possibly over 2 days in late January to meet some friends. The wife will be driving support so I wont have to carry much. Idealy i'd like to do it in one day but in 45+ heat that could be a bit much of an ask.

Thanks

G'day Andrew

Have not done the whole thing but have done part of it.

Grab a VicRoads directory, or use an online map application such as street-directory.com.au, for assistance.

Head up High Street/Epping Road. This leads you out to Wandong. You'll eventually go over the Hume Freeway and end up in Broadford.

In Broadford you'll hit a T: go right, then first left which should be Hamilton Street. Go straight and it becomes Sugarloaf Creek Road, which is familiar to many road racers. This takes you along an attractive route with a couple of turns (and hills) through the hamlet Hilldene and eventually to Seymour which is a large town, and a great place for you and your wife to re-group.

From Seymour you would seem to have two choices:
1. The Goulburn Valley Hwy (or Fwy) goes north. I haven't ridden it since much of it was made into a freeway.
2. You might aim for Avenel Road, which leads you into the old Hume (parallel with the railway line). This is a good road to ride on and to drive on. However, I think the old Hume has been 'taken over' by the freeway after about Longwood.

Hydrate properly and you'll be fine. Drink a litre of water and eat a banana every 35km and you'll feel like superman.

Well i made it.

Unfortuently it was over two days due to the heat. I left at 5am but it was about 38 degrees by about 11am so i call it a day in Shepparton and grabbed a hotel with a shower and Spa for the night. Did the rest the trip next day from about 8am.

8hrs 41min of moving. Average speed 28.8.

I was actually surpised on how nice the ride was. The Hume at sunrise was great and is far better on the bike than it is in the car. The emergency lane is huge and in better condition than the car lanes. Pretty flat too apart from around Wallan\Wondong

Only had one close call which was on the Goulbourn Valley Hwy just outside Nagambie. I was in the middle of the emergency lane and a ute with attached tool trailer flew past me half in the emergency stopping lane missing my elbow buy about 30cm. As soon as he went passed he moved left back into his own lane.
Either the idiot on the phone or just trying to give me a scare. Probably couldn't have got much closer without killing me so I'm suspecting the later. Wish i had of got his plate and would have reported him to the police.

You've inspired me to look into trying it. (after my April wedding)
