Cycling in Melbourne Australia
Hi Everyone,
Please excuse the late notice, but the Main Yarra Trail between Dights Falls and Turner Street, Abbotsford (Melway Map 2D Ref A6) will be closed from Monday 28 November, for about four weeks; open before Christmas.
The closure is related to landscape works on an unstable slope above the path and the City of Yarra will use the closure to construct a retaining wall to further secure the slope in preparation for future path re-consruction works.
If at all possible, the path will be open on weekends and at other times when safe. The path closure will require pedestrians and bike riders to detour along Trenerry Crescent.
If you have any queries, or need further information, please feel free to contact me on 9205 5724 or email mark.donnellan@yarracity.vic.gov.au.
Cheers,

Hi John,
When we reconstruct the path next year, we can only raise it by about 100 mm, so the path will continue to flood at more or less the same frequency as now. Melbourne Water has very specific requirements about the sorts of infrastructure that we can use along creeks and rivers (drains), and they are reluctant to reduce the cross-sectional area of the floodway. In effect, these requirements rule out the installation of boardwalks, fences, walls and earthworks.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience - the path is now open.
Cheers,
