PMT? I took my young son, a learner cyclist, out on suburban roads this morning. We were taking a green transport option to get to a holiday camp. You would like to think this would command some respect from motorists. He was a bit wobbly, and clearly required tolerance and consideration. Did Magda's PMT rant help the two motorists who rudely "horned" my son, think their behaviour was justifiable? What about the "run them over" bit? If Magda thinks PMT justifies this, she should get help. APOLOGISE MAGDA! You've lost two fans. And as for Paul McDermott and Channel 10 not slapping her down on the spot - you should apologise too. Where was the comedy?
Trust me, it doesn't get any better when you get to driving age. I had to guide my eldest daughter, L Plates displayed on the car clearly, through an appalling road rage attack on her a few years ago. She stalled in front of this guy and he went ballistic and tried to run us off the road. Tasmania Police would not even take a report, dunno if Vic Police are any better.
The problem the "bad egg" motorists all have is a refusal to accept responsibility for poor time management, poor traffic observance and for their own property. (ie their car)
Well, I used to like Magda, but I'm starting to think Kyle Sandilands was on the money. Well, almost... actually, not at all, but Magda's outburst is just as hateful and I thought hate speech was illegal.
OK, here's the deal, Magda. To drive, the law requires you to have a licence, a licence is a privilege, a privilege can be revoked for any breach of rules or attitude that is seen as a serious enough breach of the terms of holding that privilege.
The law doesn't require cyclists to be licenced. The reason cyclists don't need a licence, when motorists do, is because contrary to the motoring public's opinion, cycling is not dangerous, motoring is.
Also, because Australia's constitution, state and federal law are interpreted by agreement to allow freedom of movement in public space, AND THE FACT THAT THE LAW LETS US ALL CYCLE WITHOUT A LICENCE IF WE WANT TO, CYCLING IS A BLOODY RIGHT, MAGDA, SO YOU CAN TAKE YOUR TIN BOX WITH WHEELS AND CRUSH IT!!!!! (throws magazine in bin)
:-D
I will actually be writing a polite letter to Magda, explaining the law to her and that, if she'd taken up cycling as transport before she got... beefy? (Don't want to be too offensive) She may never have had to endure Sandilands' sick brand of fat jokes.
Magda does not like looking at fit people - well, good thing I am too polite to be size-ist!
The shoes rant - she better not wear high heels near me
Balancing at the lights - so she probably wouldn't appreciate the skills of Cirque de soleil
She wants bike riders on bike paths - sounds good to me, road separation is an excellent idea, copenhagen, swanston street style
Then her fellow commentator is promoting hoon behaviour, should have her car impounded.
Have totally lost respect for magda, being idiotic is not amusing
Bravo. I've written to the Amy Gillett Foundation, suggesting they offer her the opportunity to redeem herself by donating her time in various ways - publicity, entertainment, encouragement. She could even be a celebrity participant! Channel 10 and GNW could redeem themselves by showing her training journey - including a ride on Beach Road, with Magda and Paul noting how consideration from motorists is such a constructive thing in a community.
