Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

I'm thinking of having a bike themed wedding. Am I nuts? I just don't think that the white wedding thing is for me. Me and Johnny are both mad cyclists - we met on the Brighton death ride!

I was thinking instead of the whole shebang we could just ride down the road in all our lyrcra with our friends and get married on Brighton beach.

I've spoken to some cateres and photographers called Serendipity Image Melbourne (check their outdoors pics at http://www.serendipityimage.com.au/. Who reckon that it's a great idea. My mum says it's tacky. Is she right?

Personally, I don't think it's too nerdy at all.

My partner and I discussed doing exactly this. Given that you met on the Brighton death ride, I'd have to say it's appropriate.

If you feel that it's a bit much then perhaps your receiving line at the reception could be all your mates on their bikes?

My partner and I have decided that whilst the 'big day' is a once in a lifetime event, it's also personal and one shouldn't feel pressured into the traditional HUGE wedding thing - it's all SO expensive after all. We've decided that we'll have a small wedding and use the money we would have spent on a trip to France for the TDF. Either that or a couple of new bikes... or both. You can spend a LOT of money on a wedding after all! Some friends of mine spent $35,000 on the wedding day. And that's just stupid frankly.

What ever you decide to do - good luck! Enjoy YOUR day and do it YOUR way!

Cheers,

Kim.
Ive seen a couple getting married on the Picton river in Tas, the bridal party was a combination of rafts and kayakers looked great so I reckon go for it!
not too nerdy - check out these beautiful shots of a bicycle related wedding - my favourite is the helmet veil
