I'm thinking of having a bike themed wedding. Am I nuts? I just don't think that the white wedding thing is for me. Me and Johnny are both mad cyclists - we met on the Brighton death ride!
I was thinking instead of the whole shebang we could just ride down the road in all our lyrcra with our friends and get married on Brighton beach.
I've spoken to some cateres and photographers called Serendipity Image Melbourne (check their outdoors pics at http://www.serendipityimage.com.au/. Who reckon that it's a great idea. My mum says it's tacky. Is she right?
For what it's worth, my wife & I had planned to have a bike ride with our cyclist friends on the day before our wedding. Of course it rained all that day, so we did had a shorter 67k ride on the tandem on the morning of our wedding instead.
Great Fun!
My experience is that Mums all want the daughters to be married in sartorial elegance. They all seem to want to continue the fairy tale that is life and beyond of matrimonial bliss. And good on them!
But it's your wedding and if your beau is on the same page go for it. Make sure you're lycra is washed..... Will you be at the reception in your kit? I reckon it's great.
The last time I got married (yeah - twice) we pushed the envelope a bit - we got "the Gods Squad" to marry us and had a cycle themed wedding - the guests were astonished and amazed.
I have met a couple from USA who are touring around the world on their bikes. The got married in Las Vegas; The cycled up to the drive through chaple on their own bikes, completed all the formalities, then left on the tandem.
Or there's an Indian styled one around the corner from me you may be able to borrow. The orig owner imported it for precisely this purpose, his own wedding.
Personally - I don't see the need for lycra. Semi-traditional dress, which is cycle friendly. That's classy.
last time I did that ( yep also twice!).. it was on a beach at sunset
sunset, before that on a yacht ( same bride, we just needed to get the relo's from OS a year later to the day)...well on a beach, Indian style, barefoot in a Sherwani wedding suit and all, even the PJ pants...... we didnt need transport, we all met at the beach, and then after the ceremony, walked with the crowd to the reception at a beachfront rest'nt... they carried our cool lanterns and even a didge playing ( as yanks like that stuff)...
bottom line...do what you want... its your day, if you both want that .... cool, the relos can just fit in!... well that was our view... they loved it BTW...
