Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Just wondering if anyone knows if the cyclist that was hit today around 8am just on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy is okay?

There was ambulance and police around and he was surrounded by cars - so no doubt he/she was hit by one.

But it disturbed me and I was hoping someone might know if they're okay.

Thanks

Pip

Appeal for witnesses to collision in Fitzroy

Friday, 27 November 2009 13:10

Police are appealing for witnesses to a hit run collision that occurred in Fitzroy this morning.

At approximately 8.10am, a male cyclist was riding his push bike west along Gertrude Street when he was struck by a vehicle travelling east.

It is believed the female driver of the vehicle was attempting to turn right into George Street from Gertrude Street when she has struck the cyclist.

The female driver remained at the scene for a short time before leaving in her vehicle, which is described as a small, faded red coloured hatchback with a black coloured plastic bumper bar.

The female driver is described as tall, approximately 30-years-old with strawberry blonde coloured hair.

The male cyclist received serious injuries as a result of the collision and remains in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au

how horrific!

I knew there was something horrible about the scene when I walked by - there were just so many people around.

god who could just get in their car and drive away from someone so injured.

really hope they find this driver.

thanks

That's exactly my thoughts too - how the hell could anyone leave a injured person? The excuse given in a lot of cases is that the other party involved more often than not is in a state of shock and not thinking coherently. Hmmm, yeah, right.

I sincerely hope the injured man makes a full recovery, and the "other party" concerned comes forward to police and makes a full statement.
