Melbourne Cyclist

Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Anyone here into cyclocross ?

"Brunswick Cycling Club in conjunction with Dirty Deeds CX presents three cross races and a fun prologue to be held during Winter 2012. "

More info here...

Looks like a good way to try your hand at the sport, and by all accounts great fun... of course, you'd need another bike :)

We'll be there! Watching and cheering from the sidelines with beers!

Just have to raid the shed for a cowbell equivalent.....

D'oh!  Forgot my cowbell.

Let's hope Fyxo rocks up with some goodness.

"No flat bars, no MTB wheels..."

I'm off to Smiths Gully.

Drop bars and funny wheels are welcome to join me.

The open class was pretty well-contested too.  (And not just in the kooky costume race either).

Does open class allow flat bars and mtb wheels?

From the orig link

Racing will be conducted in three categories:

  1. Kids:Under 15 on the race day.
  2. Cyclocross: If it looks like a cross bike, and it sounds like a cross bike, it is eligible for this category. No flat bars, no MTB wheels and no fixed gears allowed. Races will be run in two grades, A and B.
  3. Open: All others.

Was an awesome night to spectate, HUGE crowd, bit of hilarity, great event to watch. Definitely bring your own grub; the queues at the food providers were long; though full credit for having quality caterers (Beatbox Kitchen I think?). We stopped by Pappa's Fish and Chips on the way there....

I think the kids race needed a bit of sub-divison based on age; the little tuckers (sub 8yo's?) on single speed kiddies bikes faired no chance against the older kids (12 or 14 year olds?).  And two laps seemed a little extreme for them?

I dunno... that tiny cadence kid was MAD spinnin!  ;)

I raced Friday Night , Dirty Deeds put on a great night
