Cycling in Melbourne Australia

Dear all,
Hi Everyone!

This Friday night is the 14th birthday of the Melbourne Critical Mass! If it's anything like previous years it will be a giant party on wheels through the streets of our favourite city - and you and your bike are invited! The mass will meet at the State Library at 5:30pm - don't worry if you're a little bit late, it usually waits for stragglers.

Spread the word! There are some flyers attached here, so you can also help to promote the ride :)

I remember being on my bike at the intersection of Alexandria Parade and Brunswick Street around ten years ago while Critical Mass deliberately held up peak hour traffic, including at least half a dozen trams filled with passengers. There were motorists next to me almost incandescent with rage. A passenger in a taxi who needed to get to the airport started abusing me, even though I wasn't associated with the group. When I eventually got to cross the intersection I started getting abused by a number of motorists on St Georges Road. Is this the kind of result Critical Mass is aiming for in its campaign?
