Coburg to La Trobe Uni cycling route practical?

Hi All,

My son is moving to Coburg soon and is going to Uni at La Trobe. We are thinking he will take public transport (bus & tram) most days.

He is also considering riding his bicycle. I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions of routes, I am thinking Bell Street is busy and should be avoided, does anyone have experience of Bell St while riding?

Permalink Reply by Bruce Cameron on January 26, 2009 at 9:01pm: I don't have personal experience of that area but a quick look at google maps shows a bike lane along Murray road and then a nice paved (but a little winding) shared footway along a creek and through a reserve or two leading up to Latrobe. At around 10km distance, that would make a nice start to the morning, to be psyched and ready to study.; ▶ Reply to This

You're right, Murray Road is a good bet, all the way across to Darebin Creek trail or Waterdale Road.

Thanks for the suggestions, and especialy to Ben, thanks for the maps. Looks like Murray road or nearby (as per bikely) is the way to go. I think I will try the route a few times on the weekend and then show him the best way.

up murray rd
Left in to gilbert
Right on to regent
left on high street
Right into broadway
left bolderwood parade
right dunne st
cross plenty rd and youre there
A little bit of traffic and some mucking around but unless straight up to plenty rd and ride down that in peak hr is a viable option this will have less traffic .; ▶ Reply to This
