Bike trail route help! Dandenong creek/ east link trail to Yarra trail

Hi,
I am new to cycling and riding for the first time since I was 12 (now 28).
I am reasonably fit and intending to ride to work but not using the roads at this stage since my confidence is at its bottom peak! ;)
I live next to dandenong creek trail and the east link trail in Wantirna and work right next to the Yarra trail in Richmond.
I was wondering is there a route I can take using trails to get to work?
Please help..!
I appreciate such a route might be 30-35k plus and could take a lot of time as far as commuting for work goes, but don't mind giving it a shot..

Cheers!

Hi,

I used to do this route home from Abbotsford to Heathmont occasionally and what I would do in your case is:

Take the East link trail/Koonung Creek trail until Chandler Hwy, cross the road and use the bridge footpath to get to Heidelberg Rd, then turn along Heidelburg Rd until you hit Alphington St, go down there, right into Park St which will then get you to the Fairfield Boatsheds park.

Cut through the carpark and across to the Main Yarra Trail.

I think you can also go down the Boulevard instead of crossing Chandler bridge, but I've never been that way.

And yes, it ends up around 30ks but is a nice ride. Just familiarise yourself first with the section across the Mullum Mullum creek on a weekend as it windy and hilly.

Thanks a lot Gerry! Really appreciate it.

I also came across a route idea that if one really wanted to avoid any roads then could take east link trail to koonung creek trail which then connects to the Yarra trail.. 34-35k all up.. which could easily be an hour and 15m on trails.

Haven't ridden yet this route myself but plan to this weekend!
Thanks again.
