A record number of bike riders are expected to take part in what is billed as Australia’s biggest and best cycling event.
Event organiser Bicycle Network Victoria is offering a choice of five distances from 50km to 250km to ensure there is a cycling challenge for everyone to be a part of Australia’s largest mass participation bike ride.
For the serious cyclist there is the 250km or 210km lap of Port Phillip Bay. For those who haven’t got time to train, or are just starting and want a challenge there is the 135km ride from Geelong or a 100km ride from Sorrento to Melbourne. For a more family friendly outing there is the 50km ride which includes cycling over the Westgate Bridge twice.
There are no short-cuts across Port Phillip Bay - just you, your bike and the road. It’s a ride that can take you to a new level of riding.
Both occasional and serious bike riders are looking forward to this must-do event in the cycling calendar.
There is also a serious side to Australia’s best and biggest one-day challenge ride, raising money for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life programs. The Smith Family has been an active partner of the event since its inception and in 2011 over $1 million dollars was raised. This year riders are challenged to raise a record $1.2 million to help young people in need, enabling them to fully participate in their education so that they can create better futures for themselves and break the cycle of disadvantage.
All riders are urged to seek sponsorship from their friends, family and colleagues to help support The Smith Family’s Learning for Life programs, providing educational, financial and personal support to disadvantaged Australian children.
